Here We Are

We have had very full lives lately. We took the kids to the mountains for a brief fall trip. We tried to explain "mountains" to the Africans but it proved to be more difficult than expected. The entire five hour drive was filled with questioning if every building, tree or bump in the road was the mountains. No, mountains are big, they look like they touch the sky. Every billboard we passed...is that the mountain?? No. Mountains have lots of trees and are huge. We pull up to the cabin we have rented. It is set in the woods. This is the mountain? No. Look around. The big hills you see are the mountains. They are all around us. We went hiking and told the kids we were in the mountains. They were unimpressed as the trail did not look much different than the trails we hike close to our home. They did not understand why we traveled so far and were so excited to do something we could have done at home. They loved the air hockey table located in our cabin. Now that was worth five hours of travel. AND they could tell what it was.

Kennedy just got the lead in her school play. She is floating. We are putting all her drama to good use.

The kids are ready for Halloween. Mountains are confusing. Dressing up in costumes and going to various houses for candy is not confusing. They caught onto this concept very easily and have been counting down until Halloween. It is going to be a fun night. They are super excited.

Kuker is kicking soccer butt. He plays in a noncompetive league which means they don't keep score. But even in a league they do not keep score in, they have to pull him out to keep him from running up the score the do not officially keep but everyone knows. He loves it. I will post pictures soon.

Gormah has hung up her dancing shoes. The clothes are not enough.

Ben is still thinking about baseball.

Lori is teaching the delinquents of tomorrow. Everyone is healthy and doing well in school. The kids make us laugh hysterically on an almost daily basis. They also bring us to our knees with frustration. More laughter than tears. That is the best we can hope for.
