Kuker and Ben like to argue, debate and philosophize about all things pertinent to young boys. Usually hot topics include who is stronger, if yellow cars are faster than green cars, if trucks can pull airplanes, if speed racer is faster than Lightning McQueen...you get the picture. Tonights debate stemmed around race.
Ben asks us if he is "a little black". Before we could answer, Kuker immediately tells him he is not black. Kuker tells him he is "only yellow". In a moment that made us believe in world peace, Gormah agreed with Kuker and told Ben he was not black. Gormah will argue with Kuker about what HE did at school or how he feels or if he has to go to the bathroom. The fact that she sided with him about anything is amazing.
Ben is constantly trying to align himself with his brother and his wanting to be black was really sweet. We tried to tell everyone that we all came from Africa, a long time ago, so chances are we all have a little black in us. The Africans were not having it. Ben and Kuker were yelling back forth. Ben was yelling that he was "a little black". Kuker maintained that Ben was all yellow. We turned the music up, and as the boys continued to scream over Ben's ethnicity, Lori and I wondered if we should go to the tanning bed to lose our yellow hue.
