Before we had children I always dreamed of the big moments that would let us know we were successful parents. Moments like when our children go to Harvard on a full scholarship or become president. But we have come to realize that if we can get our 7-year old to flush then we are successful. Our expectations have dwindled from leader of the free world to flushing. We would like for her to flush all the time but we have lowered our expectations even more and are hoping for just when we have company. We do not think that is to much to ask.
You can imagine my complete delight when tonight Kennedy, without being asked, went into the bathroom and brushed her teeth before bed. Let me say she has brushed her teeth before bed every night of every year since she was a baby, but never without having to be reminded. Every night we have to say "Did you brush your teeth?'. Every night she is honestly surprised and replies "Oh no. I forgot.". How does one forget to brush their teeth every single night? I guess the same way one forgets to flush every single time they go to the bathroom.
So tonight I thought I heard her brushing her teeth and immediately dismissed the notion. I went to the bathroom to find she WAS brushing her teeth. I stood there in complete shock and absorbed the moment. Still not believing wat I was seeing, I then asked her if she was brushing her teeth. She looked at me as if I were an alien. She had the toothbrush in her hand, toothpaste foam dribbling down her chin and she was standing at the sink. She half shook her head yes and looked very confused as to how I could ask such a stupid question. I felt as if we had won some parenting award because she was having a hygiene moment without any prompting by us. Very exciting.
I decided to push my luck to see if she had flushed. Nope. Oh well. Baby steps.

Shelby and Lori,
My mom wanted to leave a note but you don't allow anonymous messages and she didn't want to set up an account. She wanted to make you aware that your issues with getting someone to flush the toilets are soon to be a thing of the past. I can't speak for Gormah but I can almost assure you Kurker will flush more than you can possibly ever need!
