The Great and Not So Great News

Let me start with the great news. We had the opportunity to talk with G and K on the phone today. Words do not described the emotion that comes with the first conversation with your kids. The wave of feelings were no less than those felt immediately following childbirth. The kids were told I would call around 1:30. They were waiting by the phone. G said "Hallo mommy. I love you". We must have said I love you no less than30 times in a 7 minute conversation. G said "here is K". I said "hi K. This is mommy. I love you". He giggled and giggled. G took the phone back...I do not think she was pleased with how he was spending his time on the phone. I asked if they were excited to come to America. They both screamed "YYYEEEEAAAAHHH". She kept saying over and over "I love you mommy". I reassured her as many times as I could while still trying to ask her questions. I asked her what she liked to play with. She spoke very fast and I was lost but I was able to make out she likes Barbies. She then informed me that Kurker liked cars. They asked about Kennedy and Ben and I told them that they were their family and they could not wait to play together.

In pictures they look so shy and sad. I was expecting children that would not speak or be painfully shy. My expectation was a far cry from the ecstatic children I spoke with. The excitement they felt was incredible and it overtook me. We did not think we could want them home more than we already did, but hearing the excitement in their voices and the love in their words makes us crave them more.

Speaking of getting them home, K still does not have his passport. Karen, another adopting mother, was in Liberia to get her children, and tried so hard to secure it for us. As incredible as her efforts were the incompetence of the Liberian government was greater. First, they lost his passport application. They found the application and then lost his passport photo. The took K and had his photo redone. They then lost the payment receipt so they had to pay again. After promises and handshakes, his passport should be available on Friday (12-7-07). If I understand correctly, the consular has already cleared them for visas. If he gets his passport on Friday they will need to give the passport information to the consular and all paperwork will be sent to the agency. She will overnight to us. Lori will sign papers and then we will hand deliver the file to USCIS and wait for their approval. Once the approval is in Liberia, the children will be escorted home. All that to say there is a microscopic chance they could come home on 12-23-07. Probably not. Realistically, they will be here in January.

Other great news is that Karen was able to work miracles for another adopting mom and she is going to bring her kids home on the 23rd. She will be traveling with yet another muaa mom. So on the 23rd a total of 4 children will be coming home. Incredible.
