Hope

Today is the day we apologize to the world for the last eight years. Today is the day we begin to make amends for how this country was built. Today we are beginning to make it right. My hope is that today is the momentum we need to make lasting change. I have never been political and my sentiments today are surprising to me. Today is more than political. It is more than electing a minority to lead us. It is choosing the right person. Finally, we have chosen the right person. Color does matter. Could he reach out to those most hurt if he were a white male? Maybe. Probably not. Could he electrify a nation and the world if he were anyone else? No. He is the right combination of all the things we need as a country. He is our peace offering to the world.
I told the kids to pay attention to today. Watch the inauguration closely. Try to remember everything. It is a day you will want to remember for the rest of your life. The boys were clueless. Kennedy has been counting down the days until George Bush was no longer president since she was 6 years old. He has been president almost her entire life. She is more than ready for a change. Gomah was trying to make sense of it all. We plan to have all the kids watch the inauguration when they get home. It is important for Lori and I to have us watch it as a family. I know the kids will not be able to truly understand but I also know that one day they will. They will fully understand.
Hope has been kind of a theme for me this week. It was a conversation at church. I made a statement that hope can never be fully realized until it is the only thing you have. I have been thinking about hope alot. Today I feel differently. Today, I feel hope can be fully realized when change is coming. Hope is strong in despair and in possibilities. Hope. I hope. I have hope. Happy day of hope.
