Opening Day

It is finally here. After months of inviting strangers at the grocery to attend his baseball game, opening day is here. It was very interesting to watch our son live out something he has dreamed about for a very long period of time in his little life. Watching him on the field was like watching him still dreaming about it. He was in his own world. He spent more time checking himself out in various stances he has seen on tv than actually participating in the game. In the pictures he looks like a very serious ball player, including getting low to the ground to scoop up a grounder and grabbing himself...repeatedly. The truth is that he was pretty clueless as to what was happening in the game. It was not as important as what was happening in his head. When he wasn't grabbing his crotch, he played in the dirt. We were so proud. So, to recap, this is what the game consisted of:
-Stand in some random stance he has seen on tv (look at his shadow to check himself out)
-Grab crotch and look at shoes to ensure they look like a baseball players.
-Play in the dirt...check out shadow.
He did slide into the base while playing, however, he was in the outfield. He got a good hit but did not run because he did not want his shoes to mess up and not look like a baseball players. At the end of the game, he was thrilled and you would have thought he won the world series. I don't know if the world series would beat today. It would be close.
