Using Her Skills For Good

Okay, so yesterday was a better day. We have moved from the depths of hell to just plain ol' hell. Tomorrow we will probably be back in the depths. I need to let everyone know two things before I continue so that this post will make sense.

The first is that a lot of the families that have adopted from Africa have blogs. Gormah and Kuker love to look at these blogs and see how their friends are doing. Most have pictures and some have video. No videos for us so do not get your hopes up loyal readers.

Second, Lori is having a hard time with the kid's fits. She is extremely sweet and nice. It bothers her tremendously to have this conflict in the house.

So here is the story. I was looking at blogs with Gormah and one family had described a joke they had played on their child for April Fools (hilarious Sue). I start thinking...is it April already? I check the calendar and it was April 2. We missed April Fool's day but we were going to have a little fun anyway. Fun for us...not Lori.

It was very interesting to try to explain April Fool's to a child who has only been in America for two weeks. She got it though. We (by "we" I really mean me) decided to trick Lori.

I told Gormah that when mommy gets home she will act like she is throwing a fit. She decided to practice (as if she needed practice in this area). We were laughing so hard at her pretending to have a fit. We were ready. The whole time Gormah is practicing and I am giving pointers, Kuker is looking at us like we have lost our minds. He goes into his room.

Lori comes home and Kennedy runs outside (nothing promotes sibling bonding like ganging up on a parental unit) and tells her Gormah is having a fit. Lori comes in and her face fell. I am telling Gormah this is not how we act in this house. Gormah is putting her dramatic skills to good use and is putting on a very convincing fit. I scoop her up and we yell "April Fool's!!". Lori is more relieved than amused but we thought we were very funny.

If everyone is going to be in therapy as adults anyway, we might as well laugh a little along the way.

Okay, now that is funny! By the way - remember to breathe through some of this stuff. It REALLY does get better.
