Several weeks ago Gormah and I were both admiring a bird that was in our yard. I pointed the bird out to her and she acknowledged it. In a slow, far away voice and with her eyes very focused she says, "I will catch it and kill it and eat it". I said, " Well, okay, I was just thinking it was a pretty color but whatever babe". I could see in her that she was already seasoning the bird.
To me, this exchange symbolizes how differently we can approach things. Never would I consider a cardinal a meal but in her world it would never cross her mind to merely bird watch.
She has eased on hunting the nature in our yard. She is learning that most of the meat we eat is frozen in our freezer already so she has stopped chasing birds, rabbits and squirrels. The birds and Gormah are relaxing. Ahhh...progress.

Wow - Akins does exactly the same thing. "I will catch, stomp it, string it from and tree and eat it".
What abundance we live in here! Our kids are a great reminder to be thankful.
