Finally, we learn more information about G and K. We did know some of this but did not have specific details. We are often caught up in our excitement about G & K joining our family. In order for G&K to come to us they and their family have endured unspeakable tragedy and sadness.
Their bio parents have endured situations I know I could not have survived. The sacrifice their bio mother has made is one that no one should have to make. Her sacrifice has become two of the greatest gifts we have ever received. It feels as conflicting as it is.
We are told she relinquished them due to extreme poverty. The pictures we received of the children, when the first came into care, show bodies that are very malnourished. No parent should have to decide between watching her children starve or give them up. She gave them up. We are grateful. Lots of mixed emotions. I cannot stop thinking about how the plight of one family across the world intertwines with another with such different results.

Shelby;
This is such a hard situation and one that is way too common in Liberia. Thanks for sharing. I know G&K each have something very special inside them.

Shelby,
You and Lori will have so much to give these kids to help them heal from the pain they have personally suffered and watched their parents endure. I know you will be excellent parents and guide them as they come to terms with their own mixed emotions. It is unfortunate that the world has not cared more for ALL of the world and not just parts of it.
